Report: The Minnesota Timberwolves Are Monitoring Devin Bookers Trade Availability. What Would Scott Layden Have To Offer To Entice The Phoenix Suns?
The Minnesota Timberwolves have had an eventful season as they managed to trade for D'Angelo Russell, who happens to have a close relationship with Karl Anthony Towns while also attaining the first pick in this year's NBA draft! Although they missed the playoffs, Minnesota's future is once again bright with this new duo; however, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Timberwolves are not done with their rebuild. According to various sources, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been monitoring Devin Booker's trade availability.
"The Wolves have been looking into Booker's potential availability for months but have been given no indication that he is available, league sources said."
While there is no indication of the Phoenix Suns announcing that their franchise player is available for trade, earlier this week, The Ringer's Ryen Russillo mentioned that the NBA's worst kept secret is Devin Booker wanting out of Phoenix. Even though the Suns have been close to irrelevant ever since Steve Nash left the organization, Phoenix's future is bright as they have a sound foundation while lacking a few pieces to become future title contenders! While that might be a stretch of the imagination, the idea of Booker wanting out, especially after how well they played in the bubble, is close to unlikely. Booker seems to be loyal to Phoenix despite their tragic seasons, but a claim like this does spark a conversation on the Minnesota Timberwolves trading for the future star.
When Minnesota traded for D'Angelo Russell, one of the first topics of conversation was uniting arguably the closest group of friends in the NBA. During the trade deadline, many creators and analysts entertained the idea of a possible big three in Minnesota that would instantly become one of the best teams in the NBA. While Karl Anthony Towns and Devin Booker have exhibited superstar potential, they lack an aspect from D'Angelo Russell, leading an organization to the NBA playoffs while managing to win a game! Although Towns has made a playoff appearance, that was due to Jimmy Butler's dominance as he was the main reason for making the playoffs in the first place. During that season, the Timberwolves were one of the best organizations in the NBA. However, when Butler suffered a crucial injury that sidelined him for a few months, the Timberwolves struggled and were a loss away from not making the playoffs. This should have been an indicator from other organizations of how impactful Butler was, yet he was still labelled as the enemy for wanting to win. That's absurd! Thankfully, Butler managed to resurrect his reputation in Miami and instantly became a fan favourite for most NBA fans. Simultaneously, the Timberwolves lucked out and managed to trade away their biggest kryptonite from success in Andrew Wiggins! With their luck continuing, the Timberwolves have a viable trade package that could be enticing enough to attain Devin Booker.
Minnesota has been viewed as one of the best future organizations that would take over the NBA as they possessed two incredible prospects with incredible star potential. That projection was five years ago, and yet NBA fans have been continuously waiting for when the Timberwolves would start to peak into relevancy. Despite all the wasted attempts from years prior, this off-season could dictate whether or not the Timberwolves become a future dynasty or a first to second-round exit. Attaining the first-round pick is a massive asset for the Timberwolves to improve as they could use this pick to acquire a current All-Star or even a potential superstar! However, it has been made clear that the Timberwolves want to pair Devin Booker with D'Angelo Russell and Karl Anthony Towns. Unfortunately, the Timberwolves lack enough assets for Phoenix to even consider picking up the phone. Even though they do possess the first pick of this year's NBA draft, not a single player has shown any superstar potential Zion Williamson in 2019. If the Timberwolves possessed the first pick in the 2019 NBA draft, it would be much easier to accomplish a trade for Devin Booker, but unfortunately, this draft has yet to show any player with superstar potential.
The idea of Booker uniting with some of his closest friends on the planet is an incredible fantasy that might not happen this off-season. However, if the Timberwolves are keen on building potentially the next dynasty of the NBA, then the potential is there, especially if Booker makes it public that he wants out of Phoenix. Minnesota is confident of creating the best roster this organization has ever seen, and they will find ways to get this trade done eventually. With one organization already revealing their future goals of having a big three, what do the Phoenix Suns have in plan to prevent Booker from ever requesting a trade?
