Report: Anthony Davis Is Waiting To Re-Sign With The Los Angeles Lakers In Hopes Of Luring Giannis Antetokounmpo Out Of Milwaukee.
After an emotional championship victory against the Miami Heat, the Los Angeles Lakers are dedicated to returning to championship status. This off-season, the Lakers have traded for Dennis Schroder while signing the sixth man of the year, Montrezl Harrell, and other valuable rotational assets, including Marc Gasol and Wesley Mathews. Even though losing Rajon Rondo, Dwight Howard, Avery Bradley, and Javale Mcgee is a tough pill to swallow, these new acquisitions that the Lakers managed to attain are significant upgrades to what they previously had. However, a developing headline has surfaced regarding the two-time MVP in Giannis Antetokounmpo. According to an article written by Peter Dewey of the Lakers Daily, there is a belief that Anthony Davis is waiting to sign with the Lakers due to the possibility of recruiting Giannis Antetokounmpo to Los Angeles. If this were to be successful, how would Los Angeles successfully lure a two time MVP and defensive player of the year out of a situation where he could potentially be the most paid NBA player in league history?
Despite a disappointing post-season, the Milwaukee Bucks have reacted quickly as they have made significant trades while also providing better depth. From trading for Jrue Holiday to signing free agents such as Bobby Portis and DJ Augustin, Milwaukee has done a decent job at improving the roster while also enticing their star player in considering to re-sign with the organization. Giannis is generational type talent, meaning that virtually every contender in the NBA is focused on primarily convincing Giannis to sign with them. The most active organizations to have been rumoured about being interested in either signing or trading for Giannis are the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers, Toronto Raptors, and the Los Angeles Lakers. While adding Giannis to any of those teams would instantly make that organization a title contender, the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat are easily the best situations for him. The Lakers have done an excellent job providing depth for both LeBron James and Anthony Davis if he chooses to re-sign. They are also the current NBA champions granting them playoff experience and a confident mentality for next season.
In contrast, the Miami Heat, who made the NBA finals, took a much more dominant Lakers team to a six game series where they fell short due to having an unhealthy roster. General Manager Pat Riley believed that Miami was given an unfair situation as both Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic were unavailable due to significant injuries. If Jimmy Butler and the rest of that roster were able to dethrone Giannis in the playoffs while making the NBA finals and almost winning the Larry O'Brien trophy, imagine what Giannis could add to a team that is already so dominant?
If the Miami Heat manages to attain Giannis in a trade or free agency, they would be tied for the best organization in the NBA as the Los Angeles Lakers would be the only foe capable enough of defeating these tyrants. The key difference in both these situations for Giannis is, the Lakers would have to trade for him as they simply cannot afford to sign him while the Miami Heat next off-season can offer him a max-contract. This is a notable factor to consider hence why the Milwaukee Bucks are under the most pressure they have ever been since their organization's birth. Would they rather trade Giannis for many assets and future draft picks or have faith in him to re-sign? If Giannis decides that he is no longer interested in representing the Milwaukee Bucks, then that organization would have gained absolutely nothing and would be in a situation where they overpaid for various players for no reason at all. Whereas, if they decide to trade him to the Los Angeles Lakers or any other organization that might have a better offer, at least that way, the Milwaukee Bucks would have at least attained something rather than nothing. This is a tough position to be in as a general manager, and with little to no news of Giannis wanting to re-sign, the possibility of a trade could happen sooner than later.
